The weather in Orlando can be unpredictable. Storms that pop up out of no where and last only minutes. Hot and humid days that turn into cold, rainy nights. So how can you pack to best be prepared for your trip?
Layers, Layers, Layers in the winter
You might not think of Orlando as a cold destination but on the rare occasion it gets cold in the winter, it gets COLD. That same humidity that makes it oppressive in the summer makes the cold air cold and wet. Be sure to pack extra layers so you don’t end up needing an $85 sweatshirt in the parks!
Rain Gear & Extra Socks
I prefer packing my own rain jacket but lots of folks grab a cheap rain poncho on Amazon. Whatever you prefer, make sure to pack it because it will rain on your trip. With the right rain gear a little shower or a big storm won’t ruin your fun. Some of the best times we’ve had in the park have been on rainy days! Throw an extra pair of socks in your bag too so that when it does dry out you don’t have to squish around in wet socks, because no one likes that!
Sunscreen, Sunglasses & Hats
That Florida sun is no joke and nothing ruins a vacation faster than a sunburn! You’re wearing SPF every day (RIGHT?!) but I recommend packing a higher SPF for your trip. I wear 50 and also typically wear a hat to protect my face from the sun. Also, don’t forget your sunglasses! Buying replacement sunglasses in the park is expensive and options are limited.
Anti-Nausea Remedies
Universal is known for its screen based rides and while they’re fun they can cause major motion sickness. My husband and I have different approaches to preventing this, I prefer Dramamine and ginger gum while he needs a scopolamine patch & reliefband. Whatever helps you, don’t forget to pack it!
Comfortable Shoes
A question I get a lot is “what kind of shoes are best for the parks??” And the answer is always the same: Whatever you already own that is most comfortable. You do not want to be breaking in new shoes in the parks. If you want to get a new pair before your trip, do it well before and start breaking them in asap. Wear them for a full day of walking before you attempt to wear them in the park.
Fanny Pack / Bum Bag / Waist Pack
Whatever you want to call it — pack it. Most rides at Universal require you to put all loose items in a locker before getting on the ride. BUT some rides will allow you on with a three prong fanny pack. This is super useful for holding onto your phone or snacks or other small items during long waits
